God is Able – Devotional #6 – Turbo Power

God Is Able 2

Now to Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly

beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power

that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church

and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever.

Amen.

Ephesians 3:20-21

The moment God opens our eyes and hearts to a believing faith and we trust in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we receive the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13).  The Spirit of the Almighty God takes up residence within us!

Let this great truth really sink into your thinking!   All of His greatness – all of His grandeur – all of His fullness – all of His absolutely limitless ability – is in you – right now if you are a true Christ follower.  We are empowered with His deep, rich storehouse of strength, all because He lives within us!  Because of this, there is no circumstance that you or I will ever encounter that should make us feel powerless.

On the days that enemy wants me to feel powerless in my circumstances, there is a Bible passage that I go to and read.  Let me share it with you.  Ephesians 1:18-21.

“I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order

that you may know the hope to which He has called you,

the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and His

imcomparably great power for us who believe.

That power is like the working of His mighty strength,

which He exerted in Christ when He raised Him from the dead

and seated Him at His right hand in heavenly realms,

far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every

title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.”

There is a note that I have written in the margin of my Bible with this passage that says this – ‘Is there any need in your life that would require more strength than God used to raise Jesus Christ from the grave?  There is no need that exceeds His power!’

God’s limitless power is deeper and wider than we think.  It touches every aspect of our life, producing miraculous changes.

It can:

  • Inspire you in actual expressions of patience, gentleness, love, acceptance, peace and contentment – even when you are misunderstood , ignored or flat out betrayed.
  • Flow through you so that you can serve Him, work in your church, minister to those around you in a way that fulfills His purposes for you.
  • Produce the ability to shut your mouth, stifle your anger, make you incredibly honest, extend true forgiveness, purify your sexually, and show you how to become the same person in private that you claim to be in public.
  • Restore your desire for your husband and refashion your marriage into one that honors God.
  • Lead you to parent your children with loving, caring responsibility.
  • Help you perform your job with diligence, integrity and understanding.
  • Give you incredible strength to wait on Him as He works all things together for your good.
  • And oh so much more!!

So how do we activate the mighty power of God in us?  Let me share how Priscilla Shirer answers this question in her book:

“We do it by responding in obedience to the voice of God, yielding to the conviction of His Spirit, and operating under His leading in our lives.  The more we ‘walk by the Spirit’ (Galatians 5:16-25), refusing to gratify and yield to the flesh, His power and influence continues to grow and mature in us.  As a result, we see more and more of the Spirit’s power start to ‘work’ in our lives.  Soon we’re noticing the fruit of the Spirit springing up from our life and the gifts of His Spirit edifying His body through us.   And then – oh, then! – in response to and in conjunction with the power operating in our lives, we will begin to see the ‘exceeding abundantly beyond’ activity of God.  The more of God’s power we flip the switch for and the more operational it becomes, the more we will experience God’s work in our circumstances.  One is a prerequisite for the next.”

Here is a sobering truth for each one of us to consider:   We can have God living within us and choose not to use His exceeding, abundant, beyond great power.  Do you feel powerless in your current circumstance?  Stop for a moment and re-read Priscilla’s words above.  Can you say that you are yielding to the Holy Spirit’s work in your life, allowing Him to lead you through whatever circumstances He chooses?  Do you notice love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control operating in your day to day thoughts and actions?

You can experience the turbo power of Ephesians 3:20-21.  Take time daily to spend time in His presence.  Read His Word.  Know Him.  Love Him.  Remember Him.  Imitate Him.  Let Him truly scrub your thoughts and actions to a deep-down clean.  As you do, His power will become more and more evident in your life – a super turbo charged kind of power that is beyond anything that you can imagine!

Let’s “be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might”.  (Ephesians 6:10)

Have a Grace Full Week ~
