God Is Able – Devotional #7 – To Him Be The Glory!

by Kathy

God Is Able 2

Now to Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly

beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power

that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church

and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever.

Ephesians 3:20-21

If you are reading the Book – God Is Able by Priscilla Shirer –  read chapter 7

There are two chapters left in this book and they are packed with so many good things to really dig into and think about.  Because of this, I am going to stretch out these last two chapters into at least three more blog postings.  I hope you don’t mind.  I just love reading this book and taking time to savor all the things that God is teaching me and reminding me about Himself.

If you have been posting these two verses where you can easily read them, please take the words to Him be the glory and box them in, or mark them in  a way that they stand out far above the other markings you have made on your note card.  Here’s why.  Ultimately, our lives are ALL and COMPLETELY about HIM!

Stop for just a moment and consider just how much of this life we make about ourselves.  Go ahead.  Really consider.  Think about how you plan your day to day activities – your time with your family – your work schedule – your next vacation – how you want to decorate your home – what you will eat for your next meal….and the list goes on and on.  We live in a culture that screams at us to make it all about ourselves!  We can’t even turn the television on without being bombarded by a product that screams “you need this”!

This “me” culture often flows into our prayer life where our time talking to God is filled with our “want list”.  Stop for just a moment and ask yourself this – What does my prayer time with God look like?  Don’t get me wrong here – our lives matter to God.  Our concerns matter to God.  He wants us to pour out our hearts to Him.  But often in doing so, we neglect something so precious – a time of worship and praise – a time of remembering that we are here for His pleasure – for His praise – for His glory – and reflecting that in our prayer conversation with Him.

In the week ahead, here are a couple of things to challenge each one of us in our walk with Christ:

  • Let’s not make our prayer requests simply about personal relief, but also an opening for God to burst forth in well-deserved glory.
  • Let’s let God have our concerns and needs, but when we do, also ask Him to accomplish the very purposes He has for allowing them into our lives – to showcase His ability – to spotlight His strength – to invite the healing showers of His sustained glory!
  • After we leave our concerns and needs at His feet – or better yet – before we even present them – let’s just spend time thanking Him for all He is.  Let’s spend time making it completely about our love for Him.
  • Instead of feeling sorry about ourselves and the circumstances we find difficult, let’s change our perspective and feel privileged at being broken vessels for God’s use and glory.

May our thoughts and actions truly reflect these words:

We exist today for His fame.

We are examples of His patience and long-suffering.

We bear witness to what His love is like and can do.

We honor His name with our living, breathing presence.

We’re here for Him.  We’re here for His pleasure.  For His praise and His glory.

Have a Grace Full week bringing honor to Him~
