Truth Tuesday – Count Your Blessings

by Kathy

Last week, I shared with you that God has been reminding me to think on things that are true, consistent with God’s Word, pleasing, appealing, and praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8).  This week, I want to share with you something else that God has been asking me to do.  Count my blessings!

Each day, I have been recalling my steps in the previous 24 hours and pondering His blessings to me.   This has frequently brought to my mind an old hymn I used to sing in church – “Count Your Blessings

Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your blessings, see what God hath done!
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.

When I am experiencing difficult circumstances, counting my blessings and intentionally looking for the ways that God is revealing Himself to me throughout the day causes me not to become lost in a sea of emotions and self-absorption.

Here are my blessings in the last 24 hours that have caused me to praise and acknowledge His name:

  • a long walk outside that allowed me to enjoy God’s creation, cleared my head for writing and provided me with more energy
  • an unexpected phone call from a friend I haven’t seen in awhile – we were able to share what God is doing in our lives and talk about how we could pray for each other
  • a sweet apology from one of my kids
  • my husband, who called from work to say I’m thinking of you and miss you today
  • a Bible passage I read this morning which provided me with wisdom and peace
  • God’s promise that says He is my strength and my impenetrable shield (Psa. 28:7)
  • having my entire family around the table for lunch yesterday
  • the way in which God spoke to my heart in church yesterday morning
  • Keeping calm with a very unexpected and unpleasant interruption to my day (a BIG leak under my bathroom sink!!)

There is so much power in worshipping God in praise!  His presence brings change!  My heart is changed…my mind is changed…my attitude is changed…my life is changed!

How is God revealing His presence to you today?  Take a moment (or two…or three!) and focus on the blessings God has given to you in the last 24 hours.  Spend time praising Him for these blessings.  Consider making this a daily habit!

Have a grace full week looking for all the ways He is blessing you!
