Truth Tuesday – Hopelessness Turns to Hope!

by Kathy

hope2 Esther chapter 8 Chapter 7 ends with Haman’s hatred and evil plot turning against him, resulting in his death by hanging.  As chapter 8 opens, even though Haman’s evil plot has been exposed, there remains a huge problem.  The law that Haman led King Xerxes to make – a law that demanded every Jew in King Xerxes kingdom to be killed – a law that had been sealed by the king’s ring and could not be broken or unsealed – is still in place.   The Jews are soon to be killed.   Overcome with despair, Queen Esther falls to King Xerxes feet weeping and pleading for her life and the life of her people.  Finally, King Xerxes is beginning to comprehend the terrible fate that looms over his wife and her people.  Ah….the light bulb is turned on!  Clarity is beginning to unfold for the King!  Finally…Thankfully! So how does this problem get solved?  How does hope makes it’s way into this hopeless situation?  The answer…King Xerxes realizes that he can give authority to Esther and Mordecai to write another law that will cancel out the previous one. As I read this chapter, I pictured Esther sobbing on the floor next to her husband’s feet, feeling utterly hopeless for her people.  In a moment of hopelessness, God brought hope to the situation.  On that very day, a new decree was written that protected the life of every Jew.   As you read this chapter you can sense the excitement as the king commands the royal horses to race into every part of the land to announce that the Jews were spared annihilation.  There was joy and celebration throughout the land! Perhaps as you read this today, you find yourself in a situation that feels hopeless….a broken marriage…a wounded heart…struggles in your job…problems with your children…an illness…a circumstance that feels as though it will never change.  If you can relate to this, be encouraged by this…God, in His perfect timing can change your situation.  There may be times that you feel as though He is not working on your behalf…but He is!  He brought hope and deliverance to Esther, to Mordecai, and to the entire nation of Israel.   He can do the same for you too! Dear friend…keep bringing your situation before God…keep praying…keep believing…keep thanking Him…keep trusting Him…keep expecting God to work all things out.  It may not work out in your timing, but it always works out in God’s timing and in God’s way.  I wish that I could sit down with each of you who may feel discouraged and share with you personally how I have seen God take my hopeless situations, fill me with His hope and faithfully work them out.  There are things that I am still trusting and hoping in as He continues to weave the story together. If this week’s devotional is speaking to your heart, let me encourage you to do this – print this devotional and take time each day to sit down with your Bible (or go to and read each of the verses below.  Pray and ask God to fill you with His hope as you wait for His plan to unfold in your situation.
