Truth Tuesday – Finding Hope In His Word

by Kathy

psalm 130 5

Do you have an unanswered prayer right now…a longing that seems so far from ever being fulfilled?  Honestly, it’s hard to wait on God’s answer, especially when you have been praying for a certain situation for a long time and see very little results.  As we experience these waits in our lives, it is easy to become discouraged, allowing our emotions to dictate our perspective, leading our heart to feel discouraged, doubtful and hopeless.

When it seems that God is deaf to my prayers or blind to my tears, desires and needs, I run to find hope in His Word.  I like to read the stories of:

  • Moses – God had him wait in a desert for 40 years.
  • Joseph – God had him wait in a prison cell for 10 years.
  • Abraham – God had him wait to have a son till he was 100 years old.
  • David – God had him wait for 15 years to become king.

As I read these stories, I am reminded that during their time of waiting, God grew their faith and trust in Him…and in His perfect timing unfolded an awesome “YES”.

Instead of allowing your waiting period to make you feel hopeless about what tomorrow will bring, read His Word.  Look for His promises.  Mark them in your Bible.  Post the verses all around your house.  Memorize them.  Let God’s words and presence build your faith and give you even greater hope for what He is preparing for you.

When what your eyes see is different than what your heart deeply desires, look up and pray!  Don’t give up or become discouraged because you don’t see anything happening today.  Maybe there is nothing physically that your eyes can see but there is definitely something happening in the spiritual realm.  As you pray, spend some time worshipping Him.  Thank Him because He is always good.  Dare to ask Him for the impossible because He is a wonder-working God who is not done with your story yet.  And watch for His answer to be unveiled!

I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,
    and in his word I hope;
 my soul waits for the Lord
    more than watchmen for the morning,
    more than watchmen for the morning.

Psalm 130: 5-6
