Truth Tuesday – When It Feels Like You’re In A Wait Training Class

by Kathy

Lamentations 3 25Do you sometimes feel like God has signed you up for a “wait-training class”?   Are there things that you have been praying about and wondering when God will answer?

A few weeks ago, I began working on developing a new format for my prayer journal.  As I started to put it all together, I was struck by how long I have been praying for some things in my life and continue to wait on God to show the complete answer.  During theses long waiting periods, there have been times when I have become weary and felt completely drained.

Through these long wait journeys, I have found that to experience joy and strength during the wait, I have had to change the perspective of my thinking, which has only been possible through prayer and God’s work within me.  Today, I would like to invite you to take a peak into my prayer journal and the 10 conversations I have with God when I find myself in the ever so hard “waiting room”.  Please feel free to add them to your prayer journal too!

  1. Praise God for His promise that those who wait on Him will renew their strength.  Ask Him to fulfill this in your life, empowering you to run and not grow weary and to walk and not faint.  “But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.  They will soar high on wings like eagles.  They will run and not grow weary.  They will walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31 (NLT)
  2. Tell God that you will not fear or be dismayed as you wait on Him.  Tell Him you’re trusting Him to be with you, providing strength, helping you and holding your hand.  “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.  Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you.  I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 (NLT)
  3. Remind God that you are eagerly waiting, anticipating His work and hoping in His Word.  “I am counting on the Lord:  yes, I am counting on Him. I have put my hope in His Word.”  Psalm 130:5 (NLT)
  4. Claim that you will see the goodness of the Lord.  Ask Him to help you be strong and to help your heart to be courageous as you wait for Him expectantly.  “Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living.  Wait patiently for the Lord.  Be brave and courageous.  Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.
  5. Affirm to God that He is good to those who wait for Him and seek Him.  As you do, name specific ways He has been good to you in the past and praise Him for these things.  “The Lord is good to those who depend on Him, to those who search for Him.”  Lamentations 3:25 (NLT)
  6. Ask God to help you look to Him during your season of waiting and thank Him for hearing your prayers.  “As for me, I look to the Lord for help.  I wait confidently for God to save me, and my God will certainly hear me.”  Micah 7:7 (NLT)
  7. Rejoice in the Lord’s steadfast mercies which are renewed every morning, even during times of waiting.  Tell God you stand in awe of His faithfulness.  “The faithful love of the Lord never ends!  His mercies never cease.  Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning.  (Lamentations3:22-23)
  8. Ask God to enable you to wait patiently with a quiet heart as you hope in Him alone.  “Let all that I am wait quietly before God for my hope is in Him.”  Psalm 62:5 (NLT)
  9. Ask God to guide and teach you in His truth as you wait on Him.  “Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me.  All day long I put my hope in you.”  Psalm 25:5 (NLT)
  10. Thank Him and tell Him you will never stop thanking Him.  “Psalm 86:12  “With all my heart I will praise you, O Lord my God.  I will give glory to your name forever.”  Psalm 86:12 (NLT)

Have a grace full week allowing His truths to guard your heart and mind so that you might be strengthened in your faith while you wait patiently with great hope.
