Truth Tuesday – When The Enemy Is Hot On Your Trail

by Kathy

Psalm 121For several weeks, I have been putting together a new prayer journal.  In the  back of my journal notebook, I have a section for various topics with scripture.  This section is my “go to” when I am dealing with a particular situation in my life.  Last week, I  shared with you 10 Conversations With God While In the Waiting Room”, which is a page I turn to when I find myself waiting on God for answers to prayers.

This week…and perhaps for a few more weeks, I would love to share with you even more pages that I keep in the back of my prayer journal.  Perhaps they will encourage you in your day to day life.

***********

Are there days when this scripture verse is very real for you?  “Be alert and be of sober mind.  Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”  Honestly, some days are difficult and the enemy makes it abundantly clear he is hot on our trail!  We are tired…worn out…feeling like we can’t go on.

None of us are immune. Life is hard some days. And often there’s not even just one “big” thing, but just lots of little battles that can drain us dry. Parenting, marriage, job, relationships, fears, worries about the future, experiencing loss, discouragement, illness, money problems – it all can leave us beaten down and worn.

On these days, you and I must remind ourselves that we are not alone. Not ever! God won’t let go, though we may struggle with the lies that He’s left us fending for ourselves in hard times. His Word is filled with reminders that He fights for us still today. It never says this life will be easy. He never promises that we won’t get weary, or that we won’t face an enemy or a giant. But He does say we can come to Him and He will give us rest. He does promise to fill us with the power of His Spirit and that His joy will be our strength. He does remind us that the battle is not ours; it’s His.  He does command us to not be afraid.  He does say that we wrestle against the spiritual forces of darkness in this life, but He gives us armor to stand firm and to know stillness in our hearts.

So on our wearisome hard days, let’s have scripture ready that we can run to and allow God to speak to our hearts. Let’s be prepared for the battle  when Satan begins to prowl around looking for possible ways to cause us to doubt, to be discouraged, to give up.  Let’s have weapons ready and pointed directly at the enemy and remind him we stand firmly on the side of Maker of Heaven and Earth, God Almighty!  Here are my scripture weapons when Satan tempts me to feel weary and hopeless:

11 “Go-To” Verses When I Am Feeling Weary From The Battle And Need Hope

  1. “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Ps. 73:26
  2. “The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. He will drive out your enemies before you…” Deut. 33:27
  3. “The battle belongs to the Lord…” 1 Sam. 17:47
  4. “The LORD replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Ex. 33:14
  5. “’Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty.” Zech. 4:6
  6. “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deut. 31:6
  7. “…Do not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” Neh. 8:10
  8. “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” Ps. 46:1
  9. “The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Ex. 14:14
  10. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matt. 11:28
  11. “Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.” Eph. 6:11-13

Feel free to write these verses out in your own journal or put them in your Bible.  Run to them the next time you are feeling weary.  Praise God that He is your Refuge, your Strength, an ever-present help in trouble.  Ask Him to help you trust Him more and to not waste time spinning your wheels and wrestling or fighting in your own strength.  He is your faithful Mighty Warrior.  Lift your eyes up, your help comes from the Lord, my dear friend!

I have shared several of your blog entries with our dear friend, Linda Palicke, who has become paralyzed as the result of surgery on the vertabrae in her neck. She is feeling hopeless and in despair. Despite fervent prayers of her friends and family, she continues to have increased health problems. Linda’s husband died a year ago from pancreatic cancer. Now she faces an uncertain future as a result of this surgery.

      Kathy,
Thank you for sharing this. I pray that God will use Grace Full Journey blog entries to bring Linda hope and encouragement. Another site that might be of help to her is this one – http://www.joniandfriends.org Joni is paralyzed as well and has found God is the only hope. She shares daily devotionals. I praise God that He is using you to minister to Linda and come along side of her.
