Truth Tuesday – Quietly Pondering

by Kathy

mangerLast week, I spent time reflecting on Luke 2:19 – “But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart”.  Again, I looked at this verse with my word for 2013 – perseverance – in mind.  I was blessed, not only in my weekly devotions, but on Sunday morning as well.  Our pastor preached on this very verse!  I had to chuckle that God had more in store for me!  Don’t you love it when that happens?!!

Let me share with you some thoughts I have been reflecting on…

The word “treasured”, used in this verse, takes on the idea of counting things up – almost like making a list so you don’t forget something.  The word “pondered” goes even deeper in its meaning than the word “wondered”.  It means to take events as they are in your mind and go beneath the surface to try to understand what it means, and why it happened the way it did.  Instead of wondering what was going on, leaving her mind open to all kinds of worry and fear, Mary chose to recount all that had happened and considered what God was doing in her life.

As I have look back on the year 2013, and all the things that God has had me to persevere through, I have been spending some time quietly “pondering” a few things:

  • What is God teaching me in the “wait”?
  • What am I learning about God’s character as I persevere?
  • Is there anything that God is having to teach me over and over?
  • What have I learned about myself this year?
  • How may God be leading me as I go into 2014?

I would love to encourage you to take some quiet time this week – open up your Bible to Luke 2:19 – and ponder what God has been showing you this year.  I believe as you open up your heart to this, God will give you wisdom into the past and grace you with peaceful hope for the future.

Wishing you a grace full week of pondering~

Please note:  I will not be posting any more Truth Tuesdays until some time in January.  Thank you so much for your prayerful support of this ministry.  Merry Christmas!!
