Truth Tuesday – Knowing Him Brings Stillness

by Kathy

psalm 46 10

Be still and know that I am God.  Psalm 46:10a

I don’t think I could count all the times God has brought this verse to my mind.  He has had me on a journey these past few years of teaching me what it is to live this verse out.  I am a natural worrier. Fortunately, there has been some heart chiseling going on, deep within me, which has caused me to truly know what rest and stillness is and how it goes hand and hand with trusting God.

The verb “be still” in Hebrew (raphah) means to let something drop, to let go, or to abandon something. When we are still, we stop striving, pushing and forcing our way towards solutions and fixes.  We don’t allow our emotions to rule our actions. Instead, we hold on to peace, quieting our thoughts and actions.  We choose to endure and persevere.  We surrender to His will, His ways and His timing.

I have discovered the it is easier to let my worry go and be still when I really know God – His character – His promises – His commands – His Ways.  In order to do this, I have to carve out time to read His Word and talk to Him.  As I do, He shows me through the Word exactly who He is.  Knowing who He is, causes my heart to cease striving, stop worrying, trust Him and rest.  When worry wants to settle in and make a home in my heart, I speak the truth of who God is to myself.

The other day, I happen to come across a recording of Priscilla Shirer talking about knowing who your daddy is.  The recording is titled “He Is”.  I pray today as you listen to this that you will feel a refreshing stillness take over your heart as you realize just who your Heavenly Father Is…He is the First and the Last.  He is the Beginning and the End.  He is the Ruler over all.  Sovereign, In Control God!

When we truly know the One who we belong to, we can’t help but be still.  Can I get an amen?

Have a grace full week being still and knowing that He is God ~

I can’t tell you how timely these truths are to me today. As I face a heart-wrenching trial, I am reminded that my Daddy has this all under control. It is no surprise to Him. I believe as the Sovereign over all things, he has, in fact, authored this trial for specific purposes in all of the involved parties. I am grateful to God for reminding me what it means to truly “rest” in Him and cease striving to find the solution. I feel a new source of confidence in God this morning and peace in letting go. Thank you so much for sharing!!

      NJ,
I am thanking God in a huge way for how these words…words that He places in my heart…have ministered to you. Please keep me posted on your journey of “rest” so that I may pray for you.

      With much grace,
      Kathy

These truths resonate deeply in my heart. This lesson of being still, not worrying, and listening to God is one I am slow to learn. I want to take back the wheel and drive the crazy train of life myself, and when I do things go south quickly! As said in another friend’s comment, God is not surprised by what is happening in our lives. We may be fractured and thrown off course, but remembering who God is is so very helpful. He knows! Being reminded to rest and trust Him to take the wheel is the perfect message for my heart today.

      Heather,
Learn from your Father…learn who He is…there you will find the rhythm of rest and the true ability of heart stillness…even when circumstances tempt you to become completely unglued! Praying for you! Love you deeply!
