Truth Tuesday – Practicing the Presence of God

by Kathy

practicing the presence of GodWhen it feels like my circumstances are creating stress in my life, causing me to worry, doubt, panic, and feel joyless, there is something that I have learned to stop and ask myself.  “Kathy, are you practicing God’s Presence?

In those moments, my answer is usually “No”, even though I have had my morning devotions.  You see, it takes more than having a few Biblical words and a token prayer for learning to abide in His Presence.  I must take God into my entire day, thinking of Him as the day unfolds, worshipping Him as I do my tasks for the day, talking to Him as my constant companion, listening to His voice as He prompts my heart, and watching throughout the day for His presence in that moment.

I recently read something beautiful that Ann VosKamp wrote about practicing God’s presence on her website (please check out the writings of this gifted woman, who loves God with all her heart, at  Here’s what she wrote – “When you have an overwhelmed world, you don’t have to have an overwhelmed soul.”  She went on to write this – “You don’t practice His presence.  You practice being present to HIS presence in this present moment.”

I would like to encourage you this week to practice being aware of His presence as you go through your WHOLE day.  In the midst of everything that calls for your attention throughout your day, don’t stop leaning into the ONE, who is calling your name to come… abide… and find peace and rest!

Matthew 11:28-30 (Amplified)  “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest.  [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.]  Take my yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest [relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet] for your souls.  For My yolk is wholesome [useful, good – not harsh, hard, sharp, or pressing, but comfortable, gracious, and pleasant], and My burden is light and easy to be borne.”

Have a Grace Full Week!

Good morning Dee! I took a moment this morning and prayed for you. As you go through your busy day, practice His presence in every moment – as you teach your sweet kids, as you make their lunch, as you deal with the hard mom moments, as you talk to your wonderful husband, when you call that friend …don’t forget to press into HIM and abide! Love you with all my heart!!
