Truth Tuesday – Thanking Him for All Things

by Kathy

1Thess 5 18For the last four months our family has had to go through one difficult circumstance after another.  I found myself in waters that I would have rather swam quickly through, than been made to stay out in the deep and tread for an unknown amount of time.  However, that wasn’t God’s plan for me.  Along the way, I have poured my heart out to Him, asked for deliverance, waited for answers, trusted,  practiced being still, dwelled and learned to cultivate faithfulness and spoke truth to my heart as to who God is.  Even though I faltered and doubted at times, God continually reminded me through His word and speaking to my heart to hope and wait with great expectation in His plan and timing out of the deep.

I have shared my heart journey with you for the past several months.  Truth Tuesday blogs have been a message of my heart that longs to be obedient even during the hard times.  Although there is still a bit of hard water to tread in the coming months, I feel that God has allowed me to move into some calmer waters for now and float a bit.  Thank you Lord!

I have had some moments in the last few days to reflect back on the journey of the last few months and what God has shown me.  As I looked back over these past few months, I feel that there is one more lesson that has been so valuable to me.  The importance of giving thanks and praising God even with the waters were churning hard and attempting to pull me under.

Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus (1 Thessalonians 5:18, NIV).

We are to praise God in all circumstances. Open your Bible and underline this verse.  Circle the word “all”. This word literally means that we are to give thanks for everything.  Seriously. No matter what crisis we find ourselves facing, we are to choose to give God praise. No matter how dark or painful the storm may be, we are to choose to give God praise.

Praise is not an emotion. It is a choice.

Thanksgiving is not a feeling. It is a choice.

We are not necessarily praising God for the trial or the crisis or the storm. We are choosing to give God praise and thanks because of who He is … despite the painful circumstance we are facing.

Praise invites God to take up residence in the midst of our messy lives.

Praise becomes a free-flowing conduit of God’s very presence and power at work in us.

Here is the life changing truth I have learned and don’t want you to miss out on either…we can enthrone God in every situation of our lives by giving Him praise. Praise converts our everyday surroundings into His dwelling place. It is from that throne of praise that God dispenses victory and peace and joy even when the waters are raging. Praise tunes us into His sovereignty and allows us to experience the reality of swimming in the ocean of His power and presence.

So dear friend, will you join me today in singing loud His praise?
Wishing you a grace full week filled with praising God for all things ~
