Truth Tuesday – What are you thinking about?

Phil 4 13Not too long ago, I noticed that I was becoming a little more discouraged, cranky and frustrated as my week unfolded.  I decided that I was going to get in my pool and float around, thinking that some time of relaxation would improve how I felt.  Alone with my thoughts, drifting around in quietness, I realized that I had a whole lot of  stinky thinking going on.  Almost every thought revolved around complaining about this and that.   I was suddenly left with a choice to make.  I could continue to participate with all the chatter of complaints in my head, or  I could refocus my thought patterns on what was good and right.  As I turned my mind to think on things that were true, consistent with God’s Word, pleasing and appealing, a time of praise began to flow and a sense of peace settled within me.  I experienced exactly the kind of relaxation that I needed!

Philippians 4:8 tells us that we are to put a proper filter around our thoughts. “Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.”

Do your thoughts align with this verse?  We do have the ability to choose our thoughts?  How will you choose yours?

    So true! We really have to choose to be positive even during the hard times. I preach this to my kids all the time! Thanks Kathy!!!

You are definitely showing me how to think and live for God’s glory by your example of how you are choosing your thoughts each day as you walk through your trials! You are a blessing to me! I know your kids are seeing this lived out right before their very eyes. I am continuing to pray for you and your whole family. Know that you are loved!!

    Thank you for the words of encouragement. It goes with my devotions this morning of guarding our hearts. Proverbs 4:23, “Above all, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” We need to be careful what we allow to “hang out” in our heart. Those are the things that robs our love for Christ and discourages our walk with God. So thankful for your words and the words of Nancy Leigh DeMoss this morning. They are a balm to my soul.

    Oh, you had to go and bring up THAT one didn’t ya’! 🙂 LOL!

    Yes, I’m working on aligning my thoughts with HIS thoughts constantly. Sadly, it’s a lot harder than I wish it was. Thank you for the reminder. And for the reminder, too, that sometimes when our attitudes stink we need to stop and refocus. Off to do that now 😉
